I once read a book entitled, Time Management for System Administrators, from O'Reilly. Time Management for System Admins : Time Management for System Administrators, Thomas Limoncelli : [Amazon]. Time Management for System Administrators. The proliferation of configuration management packages changes that. It's one of Limoncelli's big points in Time Management for System Administrators. Invaluable for troubleshooting. I first started thinking seriously about time management embarrassingly late in my career, I'd always just made do. If your system admin is not smiling back to you, present him this book. Tooling doesn't really matter, the important part is being able to remember what the heck I did and when I did it. I'm happy to announce that Time Management for System Administrators (O'Reilly) is now available on Kindle (both Kindle 1, 2 and iPhone), and is being sold without any DRM. I've had this book for a long time and recently re-read it. Tom Limoncelli wrote a pretty good book on the subject named “Time Management for System Administrators” which I can recommend… I believe it's based on the GTD methodology.
